Baan Piranan
As of March 2012 we have made a decision to suspend operations based upon lack of donations.
Baan Piranan was established in 2008 as a pilot project to provide resident care facility for children suffering from severe cerebral palsy. Today Baan Piranan has matured into a vital lifeline for the children it serves.
Our challenge is to not only provide a healthy and loving home care environment, but to also challenge and de-mystify the cultural prejudice that currently limits opportunities for children in Thailand with cerebral palsy – an affliction that is unfortunately all too common. Over and over again, the individual achievements of our children demonstrate that the practice of minimal life support or medication maintenance is an out dated concept from a past century. Our challenge involves two specific goals;
- Assisting the development of children with cerebral palsy
- Using the project as a hands on teaching tool for students and teachers of physical and occupational therapy.
Our Needs
Our major financial challenge is to secure monthly operational funding or in other words individual sponsorship for resident children. Sponsoring one child for one month costs $200. Each new sponsorship allows us to add one additional child. Since its inception, Baan Piranan has assisted 14 children.
$200 per month to care for a severely disabled child is not much more than the average smoker spends each month on cigarettes. So why not pack in the smoking habit, improve your own health and expand the life a child?
If you prefer other ways in which to help, we are always in need of pampers, cases of sesame seed soy milk, warm weather children’s clothes and low sugar content cookies and crackers.
Visits
Baan Piranan welcomes visits but please be kind enough to call in advance. The facility is located in Moo Baan Chiang Mai View Mai, about 1 kilometer west of the Mae Kue market easily identified by a 7/ll and Lotus store on the main paved road between Borsang and Doi Sakhet. We have erected large blue and white wheelchair signs (with directional arrows) beginning at the Mae Kue market to help with directions. If you visit and have any kind of flu, please be kind enough to wear a mask. Our children have enough
challenges of their own without adding other illnesses, thank you.
